}In the painting of surfaces, it is often necessary to provide a surface finish which cannot be achieved by a chemical method, such as by stripping with acids, alkalis, solvents, or by techniques such as sandblasting. For example, it is often necessary to provide a coating which is abrasion-resistant. Because the properties of these techniques cannot be easily changed during the coating process, it is necessary to provide the coating before the surface finish is applied.
Various techniques have been developed for applying coatings to surfaces, such as by plasma spraying or by applying a solution to the surface and then evaporating the solvent. Such prior art techniques are disclosed in U.S. Pat. Nos. 3,766,507 and 3,944,389, both to Murata et al, and both entitled “Coating Apparatus”.
