This invention relates to a drum support for mounting on the head of a vehicle.
Motorcycles, automobiles, and the like are typically provided with spring suspension systems to absorb shocks. Such systems generally include a shock absorber or shock spring which may be mounted to the vehicle body, a crankshaft and primary chain drive which serves as a rotatable mass for the spring, and a spring mounting rod connected to a spring mounting structure. The spring mounting rod is usually located below the spring to minimize mechanical interference of the spring with the driving components. The lower mounting of the spring minimizes the possibility of binding of the spring and the driving components in the event of mechanical failure of one of these components. In the event of a failure of the vehicle body or of a failure of the spring mounting system the spring does not contact the ground or other part of the vehicle to be damaged.
It has been desirable to locate the spring mounting rod to the front of the vehicle body, to reduce the center of gravity and to facilitate travel over bumpy terrain. This has necessitated the use of a rigid suspension arm or yoke which extends the length of the vehicle body, and which must be connected at both ends to the spring mounting rod and to the spring mounting structure. The yoke is usually connected to the spring mounting rod and the spring mounting structure by means of upper and lower pivot pins or joints. This type of structure has been expensive to fabricate, and the connection between the spring mounting rod and the spring mounting structure must be capable of withstanding a wide variety of forces, including those generated by impact between the spring mounting rod and the ground.//
